Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed that some individuals allegedly tried to create distrust between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after they assumed office in 2023.
Shettima disclosed this during the public presentation of the autobiography of former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, titled My Life of Duty and Allegiance, in Abuja.
According to the Vice President, some persons from Borno State allegedly approached President Tinubu and claimed that he was plotting to kill him and take over power.
Shettima said the individuals also warned the president against wearing traditional clothes and caps he had gifted him during the 2023 election campaign, alleging that the items had been spiritually manipulated.
He, however, said President Tinubu dismissed the claims, insisting that the allegations did not make sense because the gifts were exchanged before both men emerged as presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
The Vice President added that Tinubu deliberately continued wearing the clothes for several days to demonstrate that he was not influenced by superstition or attempts to sow division between them.
Shettima’s remarks have since generated reactions across political circles, with many interpreting the revelation as evidence of internal political intrigues within Nigeria’s power structure.
