Content creator Caramel Plug has publicly accused Nollywood actress Anita Joseph of using her photo without permission after spotting an edited image on the actress’s Instagram page.
On July 9, Caramel Plug shared side-by-side screenshots showing that Anita had allegedly edited her face onto Caramel’s original cream pantsuit photo.
According to Caramel, Anita posted the altered image four days earlier alongside a caption about women and surviving difficult times.
After the comparison went viral, Anita Joseph deleted the post and addressed the controversy through her Instagram Story.
She apologized and explained that an “AI boy” she hired handled the edit, adding that he used Caramel’s photo as inspiration without her knowledge.
Caramel, however, rejected the explanation. She questioned why someone she had never met would use her image without permission and urged Anita’s team to do better in the future. The content creator also stressed the importance of respecting other people’s creative work.
The incident quickly sparked reactions across social media, where users shared memes and debated the ethics of AI-generated edits. Many also questioned why Anita had responded to comments under the original post as though the edited image belonged to her photoshoot.
Others argued that public figures should verify creative content before sharing it online, especially as AI tools become more common in digital content creation.
Although Anita Joseph has apologized and removed the post, the controversy has reignited conversations about image ownership, proper credit, and accountability when using artificial intelligence for creative projects. The incident also serves as a reminder that technology should support originality rather than replace respect for another person’s work.
