The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed all public primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo State to begin an indefinite strike from Monday, June 1, 2026.
The union ordered teachers to withdraw their services until authorities secure the release of abducted teachers and pupils.
According to the NUT, the victims remain in captivity, and their rescue remains uncertain.
The union said the prolonged abduction has created fear among teachers across the state.
It added that many parents now hesitate to send their children to school because of security concerns.
The NUT also warned that tension continues to rise in affected communities.
In a statement signed by the Oyo State Chairman of the union, Comrade Hassan Fatai, the NUT said the strike aims to draw attention to the urgent need for stronger rescue efforts.
The union called on government authorities to intensify actions that would secure the safe release of the victims.
Teachers Urged To Comply With Directive
The NUT urged all teachers to comply fully with the strike directive.
It also advised members to remain law-abiding and stay safe at home throughout the industrial action.
The union reaffirmed its support for the abducted teachers, pupils, and their families.
It pledged to continue lawful engagements with government authorities until the victims regain their freedom.
The NUT also assured members of its commitment to protecting the welfare and security of teachers and learners across the country.
Tinubu Orders Security Response
The strike followed a directive issued by President Bola Tinubu on Sunday for the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards.
The President said the move would strengthen security operations and support efforts to rescue the abducted teachers and students.
