President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave, the Presidency has announced.
The development was disclosed on Sunday, August 30, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. (Channels Television)
According to Onanuga, Tinubu’s first destination will be London, United Kingdom, before continuing his working vacation in Europe.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave,” Onanuga said in the statement.
He added that the President is expected to return to Nigeria after the vacation to participate in the campaign ahead of the January 2027 election. (TheCable)
Vacation Comes Amid 2027 Political Activities
Tinubu’s three-week leave comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has opened the campaign period, paving the way for political parties and candidates to intensify rallies, mobilisation and other campaign activities ahead of the polls. (Channels Television)
Tinubu, who is seeking another term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, is expected to return to Nigeria as political parties step up their campaigns and grassroots mobilisation.

According to Onanuga, London will be the President’s first stop during the European trip.
The Presidency did not provide further details about the duration of his stay in the United Kingdom or identify the other countries Tinubu may visit during the three-week period.

Return Ahead of Campaign
Onanuga said Tinubu would return home after the working vacation to join what he described as the “hectic campaign” for the January 2027 election.
The President’s absence from the country therefore comes at a period when preparations for the election are gaining momentum, with political parties increasingly focused on candidate mobilisation, voter outreach and campaign strategies.
The three-week break will allow the President to proceed with his annual leave while remaining scheduled to return ahead of the major campaign activities for the 2027 polls.
