Technology company itel has threatened legal action against people who use artificial intelligence-generated images and fabricated content to spread false claims about its products.
The company issued the warning in a disclaimer on X on Wednesday after an AI-generated image circulated online and purportedly showed an itel Power Tank exploding.
An X user, Enori, shared the image and claimed that an itel Power Tank had exploded because of overcharging. The post attracted significant attention before the user deleted it and apologised.
Enori later admitted that the image and the scenario came entirely from AI. The user also accepted responsibility for the false claim and the confusion it caused.
itel said it welcomes genuine customer feedback and constructive criticism but will not tolerate fabricated content aimed at damaging its reputation.
The company warned that anyone who deliberately misrepresents itel through fabricated images, manipulated materials or false claims could face legal action.
itel added that it would take appropriate steps to protect its brand, customers and reputation from misleading claims.
The controversy also prompted itel Energy and related accounts to warn social media users against sharing the fabricated image. The company maintained that the image did not show a real incident involving an itel Power Tank.
The Power Tank serves as a portable power station for backup electricity during power outages. The product line uses lithium iron phosphate batteries and includes safety features such as battery management, over-temperature, over-voltage, overload and short-circuit protection.
No verified report has linked an itel Power Tank to the explosion shown in the viral AI-generated image.
