France coach Didier Deschamps has named his final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement has caused major reactions online after several top players were left out.
Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga and striker Hugo Ekitike are among the biggest names missing from the squad. France will head into the tournament hoping to improve on their runner-up finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Deschamps Explains Camavinga’s Omission
Deschamps said Camavinga lost his place because of injuries and strong competition in midfield.
“His season made him lose his place. Injuries too, and the competition is very strong in that position,” Deschamps said.
He also admitted the young midfielder has every right to feel disappointed.
“Cama is among the disappointed players. He is still young. In March he was there. I’m not questioning what he is capable of doing, but today he has the right to be angry with me. I understand him.”
Camavinga played 42 matches for Real Madrid this season. He scored two goals and provided one assist across all competitions.
Ekitike, Kolo Muani Also Miss Out
Hugo Ekitike will miss the World Cup after suffering an Achilles injury in April. The injury is expected to keep him out for several months.
Randal Kolo Muani was also left out of the squad. Many fans still remember his missed chance late in the 2022 World Cup final against Argentina.
Other Stars Left Out
Juventus pair Pierre Kalulu and Khephren Thuram also failed to make the final list despite strong performances in Serie A this season.
Corentin Tolisso, Bournemouth youngster Eli Junior Kroupi, and experienced winger Florian Thauvin were also omitted from the squad.
Deschamps’ final selection has already sparked heavy debate among football fans on social media ahead of the tournament.
