Federal Government Welcomes End of Oyo Teachers’ Strike
The Federal Government has welcomed the suspension of the teachers’ strike in Oyo State. It described the move as a major success achieved through dialogue. As a result, public schools are expected to return to normal academic activities.
The strike ended after successful talks involving the Federal Ministry of Education, the Oyo State Government, and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT). During the strike, thousands of pupils across the state were unable to attend classes.
Government Praises Peaceful Resolution
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, praised all parties. According to the ministry, they chose dialogue instead of a prolonged dispute.
The ministry also said the agreement shows that constructive engagement remains the best way to settle labour issues in the education sector. Therefore, it urged stakeholders to continue using dialogue to resolve future disagreements.
Minister Commends Stakeholders
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the agreement reflects the shared commitment of government officials and labour leaders. He said both sides worked to protect the interests of schoolchildren.
He added that uninterrupted access to quality education remains one of the Federal Government’s top priorities. Therefore, he called on all stakeholders to continue working together for the benefit of students.
In addition, Alausa praised the Oyo State Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers. He said they showed flexibility, understanding, and responsibility throughout the negotiations.
He expressed confidence that the renewed cooperation would strengthen relationships among education stakeholders. As a result, schools can enjoy a more stable and productive learning environment.
Call for Regular Communication
Meanwhile, the minister urged teachers to remain committed to their duties. He also encouraged governments at all levels to maintain regular communication with education workers.
According to him, early engagement can help address concerns before they grow into industrial disputes. This approach can also strengthen trust between governments and teachers.
Focus on Teachers’ Welfare
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to industrial harmony in the education sector. It said it would continue to introduce policies that improve teachers’ welfare. At the same time, it plans to raise learning standards across the country.
Finally, the government said the peaceful resolution of the Oyo State teachers’ strike should serve as an example for other states. It added that dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation remain the best tools for resolving similar disputes nationwide.
