The Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed Yushau A. Shuaib’s N1 billion suit against the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

NIPSS withdrew Shuaib from the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47 after accusing him of breaching the institute’s confidentiality rules.

Justice Binta Nyako ruled that NIPSS acted within its disciplinary powers. She also said Shuaib received a fair hearing before the disciplinary committee.

Furthermore, the judge said Shuaib’s apology on behalf of PRNigeria amounted to an admission of wrongdoing. She added that his oath of secrecy bound him throughout the course.

However, Shuaib rejected the judgment. He argued that the court failed to separate his personal conduct from PRNigeria’s editorial decisions. He also said he had handed over the company’s management before joining NIPSS.

In addition, Shuaib said the court did not address his claim that NIPSS unlawfully accessed his private emails arguing that the alleged action violated his constitutional right to privacy.

The suit, filed on July 7, 2025, sought N1 billion in damages, reinstatement to SEC 47, N100 million in litigation costs, and declarations that NIPSS violated his rights to privacy, fair hearing, and freedom of expression.

Meanwhile, Shuaib has vowed to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal. He said the appellate court would thoroughly examine the constitutional and legal issues in the case.
