Veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, is battling stage 4 cancer, according to his family and his daughters have made emotional appeals for urgent medical help. The family is looking for doctors, cancer specialists and treatment centres that can review his case and offer options.

One of Ogogo’s daughters, Taiwo, appealed publicly for help on social media, she said her father is seriously ill and that hospitals have reportedly refused to continue treating him, asking medical professionals and others with access to cancer specialists to step forward.

The family, she stressed, is not primarily seeking financial support, instead, they want someone who can help find a treatment option for the actor.

In her emotional appeal, Ogogo’s daughter said her father still wants to live, she described him as having a strong will to survive, she also asked anyone with the medical knowledge or connections to help the family and her appeal has since attracted attention from fans and colleagues across the Nigerian film industry.

The family had considered taking Ogogo abroad for treatment, his daughter later revealed that the actor has an Indian visa, however, doctors have reportedly declared him unfit to fly and this has made overseas treatment difficult at a time when the family is searching for urgent options.

Premium Times reported that the family is seeking recommendations for standard hospitals, specialists and advanced treatment centres.

The goal is to find professionals who can review Ogogo’s medical records and advise on possible treatment.

The family says it needs medical direction rather than donations.  In her appeal, Ogogo’s daughter also asked whether anyone could help through medical or herbal treatment. That statement reflects the family’s desperation to find an option for the actor, however, there is an important medical distinction.

The National Cancer Institute says no herbal product has been proven to cure cancer. It also warns that some herbal products can interfere with cancer medicines or cause harm, for that reason, cancer patients should discuss any herbal or complementary treatment with their doctors before using it.

The World Health Organisation says cancer treatment depends on the type of cancer and the individual patient.

Treatment can include surgery, radiotherapy and systemic therapies such as chemotherapy, hormone treatment or targeted biological therapy.

A correct diagnosis is essential before doctors choose a treatment plan.

The National Cancer Institute also advises patients considering complementary therapies to speak with their doctors.

Some products can interact with standard cancer treatment.

News of Ogogo’s condition has prompted support from several Nollywood colleagues.

Actors including Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola and Sola Sobowale have joined calls for assistance.

Femi Adebayo urged people with connections to cancer specialists and advanced medical facilities to help the family.

He also stressed that the family was seeking medical direction rather than financial donations.

Ogogo is one of the respected veterans of Nigeria’s Yoruba film industry. He began his professional acting career in the early 1980s.

Over the decades, he has appeared in numerous Yoruba and English-language productions.

His credits include films such as Aníkúlápó, Bank Alert, Oye Agba and Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre.

The actor previously spoke publicly about a serious health battle.

In 2025, he recalled suffering from chronic ulcer for several years.

He said the illness left him severely weak and unable to eat normally.

He also recalled vomiting blood for several months during that period.

His latest health crisis, however, is a separate and much more serious development involving cancer, according to his family.

Ogogo’s family is now focused on finding specialists who can assess his condition.

His inability to fly has added another challenge.

But his daughters and colleagues continue to appeal for help.

For the family, the priority is finding qualified medical professionals who can review his case and identify any appropriate treatment options.

As Nigerians rally around the veteran actor, his family is holding on to hope and asking for one thing: a chance for Ogogo to fight.
