President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards and the deployment of a special rescue team to Oyo State following the recent abduction of school pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The approval was announced after a high-powered Federal Government delegation led by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, visited the affected communities to assess the security situation and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to securing the release of the abducted victims.
As part of immediate measures to strengthen security in the area, the president directed the recruitment of the forest guards in collaboration with the Oyo State Government to improve surveillance and tackle criminal activities within forested areas.
Tinubu also approved the deployment of a specialized security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts aimed at securing the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
Speaking during the visit, Gbajabiamila said the president is deeply concerned about the incident and has ordered all necessary security agencies to deploy both intelligence-driven and tactical operations to ensure the victims are rescued safely.
The delegation included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, and Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa.
The move comes as part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen security architecture in vulnerable communities and address rising concerns over school-related abductions in the country.
