Gombe Politics Needs Grassroots Strength - Prof. Garkuwa

Prof. Abdullahi Bappah Ahmad, the former Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation in Gombe State, has said that the 2027 political landscape in the state requires candidates with deep grassroots experience and strong understanding of political dynamics.

He made the remarks in Abuja while reacting to developments surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Gombe State and the controversy over the screening and selection of aspirants.

Prof. Garkuwa noted that politics in Gombe is highly dynamic and cannot be successfully navigated by newcomers who lack sustained involvement at the grassroots level.

According to him, “Gombe politics is dynamic and it needs someone who knows the game, a grassroots politician who has been in the system, not just someone who just came into the arena.”

His comments come amid internal debates within the APC in All Progressives Congress over candidate selection processes, which some stakeholders have described as controversial.

He also referenced criticisms raised by some political actors regarding the primaries, including concerns earlier described by former Minister Isa Ali Pantami, who reportedly questioned the transparency of the process.

Prof. Garkuwa stressed that political stability in Gombe State would depend largely on how closely leaders remain connected to public sentiment, especially at the grassroots level where frustration and expectations are high.

He further called on all aspirants, party stakeholders, and the eventual flag bearer to unite and work collectively toward securing victory for the party in 2027.

According to him, internal cohesion remains critical, warning that divisions could weaken the party’s chances in the next general election.
