Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has told a United Kingdom court that she neither solicited nor received bribes during her time in office.
Testifying in her ongoing trial, the former minister firmly rejected corruption allegations, insisting that her lifestyle while in office was funded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), not by illicit payments.
Diezani maintained that all expenses attributed to her were official and in line with her role as a top government official, dismissing claims that she benefitted from oil contracts or received kickbacks.
The prosecution, however, alleges that she was involved in corrupt practices during her tenure, including receiving benefits in exchange for awarding lucrative oil deals. The case has drawn significant attention both in Nigeria and internationally, given her influential role in the country’s oil sector.
Her defence team continues to argue that there is no evidence linking her to bribery, as proceedings in the UK court continue.
