The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has condemned the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Forum described the incident as a disturbing departure from the region’s long-standing values of peace and coexistence.
Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, made this known after the NSGF quarterly meeting held at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Governor Yahaya described the attack as “unfortunate and reprehensible.”
He said such violence is alien to Northern Nigeria’s tradition of brotherhood, mutual respect, and unity.
He added that the governors had reviewed the security situation across the region. They also reaffirmed their commitment to tackling both security and socio-economic challenges.
The NSGF chairman urged residents of Plateau State, especially those in affected communities, to remain calm.
He warned against reprisals, noting that retaliation could worsen the situation.
He also called on community leaders, religious figures, and youth groups to promote peace and stability.
Governor Yahaya commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his quick response to the crisis.
He highlighted the 48-hour curfew imposed in Jos North and the rapid deployment of security personnel.
“These measures are timely and necessary to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” Yahaya said.
The Forum reaffirmed its support for the armed forces and other security agencies.
Governor Yahaya said Northern governors remain united in strengthening regional cooperation to combat crime and threats to peace.
He expressed confidence that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice.
Governor Yahaya also extended condolences to the government and people of Plateau State, especially families who lost loved ones.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased and speedy recovery of the injured.
