Amid worsening fears of insecurity in the country, the Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Taiwo Adegoroye, has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools in the council area.
Adegoroye announced the directive during a press briefing, describing the measure as a proactive step aimed at protecting pupils, students, teachers and other education workers from potential security threats.
According to him, the decision became imperative due to the prevailing security situation and the need to safeguard lives and property across the local government.
The council, however, exempted candidates currently sitting for national examinations, stating that they would be granted access to their schools strictly for examination purposes.
The chairman warned school proprietors and administrators against violating the directive, stressing that any institution found operating in defiance of the order would face appropriate sanctions under the law.
He also urged parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children and discourage unnecessary movements while the closure remains in force.
Adegoroye assured residents that the local government is collaborating with security agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen surveillance and improve security across the area.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that the safety and well-being of residents remain a top priority.
The council chairman further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that community participation is critical to tackling security challenges.
