A commercial driver was killed and three traders abducted after suspected terrorists ambushed travellers along the New Bussa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attack occurred late Sunday as the victims were returning from the Sabon-Pegi weekly market, with eyewitnesses said the driver, identified as Jibrin Mohammed, unknowingly drove into a roadblock mounted by heavily armed assailants, who immediately opened fire on the vehicle.

Mohammed was killed on the spot, while three passengers sustained gunshot injuries. Three other traders were forcibly taken away by the attackers.

Residents alleged that the attackers were members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, which has recently been linked to violent attacks in parts of northwestern Nigeria.

According to a witness, the gunmen blocked the road for several hours, leaving motorists stranded and creating panic among communities in the area.

The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, said he would verify the incident and provide further details.

However, no official update had been issued by the command as of the time of filing this report. Security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted traders and track down those responsible for the attack.
