Shettima Urges Peace Ahead of 2027

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on political leaders and Nigerians to approach the 2027 general elections with maturity, tolerance, and a strong sense of national responsibility.

He warned against divisive statements and actions that could threaten the peace and stability of the country.

The Vice President made the call on Wednesday while speaking to journalists shortly after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Shettima said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to reducing the economic hardship facing Nigerians through reforms and strategic interventions.

He assured citizens that both the Federal Government and state governments are working to ease the current economic challenges and improve living conditions.

“Governments at all levels are poised to ameliorate the sufferings of the Nigerian people,” he said.

The Vice President urged Nigerians to remain patient and continue supporting the administration as it works to stabilise the economy, strengthen national security, and create more opportunities for citizens.

Speaking on the 2027 political season, Shettima stressed the need for political actors to conduct themselves responsibly.

“As we enter the political phase, there is a need for maturity, forbearance and generosity of spirit in our political interactions. We must avoid inflammatory statements and actions capable of overheating the polity because what binds us together as Nigerians supersedes whatever divides us,” he said.

He also called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace and unity across the country.

“Let there be peace in the land. Let us continue to pray for peace not only in Borno State but in every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” he added.

The Vice President noted that ongoing global tensions, particularly the crisis in the Middle East, should remind Nigerians of the importance of unity and national solidarity.

Shettima was joined at the Eid prayers by the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; members of the National Assembly, and other top government officials.

Following the prayers, the Deputy Governor paid a traditional Sallah homage to the Vice President at his Maiduguri residence, where he praised Shettima for his continued support to the people and government of Borno State.

Kadafur prayed for Allah’s guidance, wisdom, and strength for the Vice President as he continues to support President Tinubu in advancing national development.

He also urged Nigerians to continue praying for lasting peace, unity, and prosperity across the country.
