The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has revealed that the party rejected requests by former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for an automatic presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
Baba-Ahmed disclosed this during an interview on a Hausa political programme aired on DITV Kaduna, stating that discussions for a possible alliance collapsed over disagreements on the conditions for joining the party.
According to him, both politicians expressed interest in joining the PRP but demanded guarantees that they would secure the party’s presidential ticket without contest.
“We told them no, this is PRP; we do not practise that kind of politics,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He explained that the party insisted that Obi and Kwankwaso must first become members of the PRP and participate in its internal democratic processes like every other aspirant.
“But for you to come even before a decision is made and ask us to guarantee you the ticket without opposition… why fear competition?” he added.
Baba-Ahmed noted that although the party recognised the political influence and support base of both politicians, it would not compromise its constitution or democratic principles.
He further alleged that the camps of Obi and Kwankwaso requested a significant share of party positions in exchange for the supporters they intended to bring into the PRP.
The PRP chairman maintained that such discussions could only take place after formal membership and adherence to party procedures.
