The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, accusing him of failing to fulfil his constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Thursday, PRP National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said insecurity has worsened across the country under the current administration. He argued that violent crime is no longer limited to specific regions and that many Nigerians now live under constant fear.

According to Baba-Ahmed, attacks by criminal groups have continued to expose weaknesses in the nation’s security system, while schoolchildren and other vulnerable groups have increasingly become targets.

The PRP chairman said the concentration of political authority at the centre has not resulted in better protection for citizens. He maintained that Nigerians from all parts of the country remain at risk despite the government’s security efforts.

Baba-Ahmed also argued that there is little evidence the administration can reverse the current security challenges. He said citizens affected by violence should not be expected to wait until the 2027 general elections before demanding accountability and change.

The opposition party insisted that leadership must be judged by performance and called on Nigerians to speak out against what it described as continued failure in addressing insecurity.

As security concerns continue to dominate national discussions, should President Tinubu take stronger measures to address the crisis, or has the time come for a different approach?
