The Ogun State Police Command says the prime suspect in the killing of former OGTV broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, admitted that he planned the attack to “teach her a lesson.”
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. Police launched an investigation after a resident reported suspicious activity at Oyesiku’s home.
Detectives who arrived at the scene found signs of forced entry and a struggle. They found Adetayo’s body inside the security post before discovering Oyesiku’s body inside the house. Investigators also recovered Oyesiku’s missing Lexus RX 330 during the operation.
Note Leads Police to Prime Suspect
Ojajuni said detectives found a handwritten note inside the recovered vehicle. Forensic investigators analysed the note and identified the prime suspect as Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip.
Police arrested the 22-year-old on 24 June 2026 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he worked as a labourer. Detectives later arrested two other suspects—Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
Ojajuni said investigators have now arrested everyone directly linked to the alleged conspiracy.
Suspect Confesses to Planning Attack
According to the police commissioner, Philip admitted his role during questioning.
Ojajuni said Philip confessed that he recruited Ayoola and Obafunsho to carry out the attack after developing grievances while working as Oyesiku’s security guard.
“The suspect said he planned the murder to ‘teach her a lesson’,” the commissioner stated.
Police Explain How the Attack Happened
Police said the suspects carried out the attack on Saturday, 20 June 2026.
According to investigators, the suspects first overpowered security guard Pelumi Adetayo before forcing him to help them enter the property. They then attacked Oyesiku inside her home before killing Adetayo.
After the attack, the suspects escaped in Oyesiku’s Lexus RX 330. Detectives later tracked and recovered the vehicle in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State through intelligence-led operations.
Police Recover Weapons
Ojajuni said detectives recovered several items linked to the investigation, including:
- A broken hammer
- A cutlass
- A wooden plank
- A black pen
Police continue to examine the exhibits as part of the investigation.
Police Promise Justice
Ojajuni stressed that although the suspects had made statements and investigators had gathered significant evidence, the law still grants every suspect the right to a fair trial. He said detectives will continue their investigation to strengthen the case before prosecution.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims and bringing everyone connected with this crime before the law,” he said.
