The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has started an investigation into the death of Mr. Ademike Godwin in the Guzape area of Abuja.

Police officers responded after family members and associates failed to reach the deceased. Concerned residents later alerted security operatives.

According to the police, officers quickly visited the residence to verify the report.

They discovered Godwin lying in a pool of blood inside the house. Doctors at Karu General Hospital later confirmed him dead.

Meanwhile, reports on social media claimed that the deceased’s son, said to be a National Youth Service Corps member, stabbed him during an argument.

However, the police have not confirmed the claim.

The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, urged the public to avoid speculation while investigators work on the case.

“The FCT Police Command is investigating the death of Mr. Ademike Godwin of Guzape, which was discovered following a distress call regarding inability to reach him,” Adeh said.

She added that detectives were examining all possible angles surrounding the incident.

Furthermore, the police have arrested five suspects in connection with the case.

Adeh said the suspects include a relative of the deceased.

She explained that the Commissioner of Police, Ahammed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the matter.

Investigators have already begun interrogating the suspects. In addition, forensic experts are analysing evidence recovered from the scene.

However, the command has not released the identities of those in custody.

The incident comes as the FCT Police Command intensifies security operations across Abuja.

Recently, the command increased surveillance and strengthened joint operations against violent crimes and criminal gangs in the territory.

In addition, CP Sanusi reactivated “Operation Sweep FCT” to improve security response and protect residents.

Police authorities say the operation targets robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes within the capital city.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators.

Adeh urged members of the public to provide useful information that could help the investigation.

She also warned against spreading false or unverified reports online.

According to the command, detectives will continue investigations until they uncover the circumstances surrounding the death.
