Nigerian sprinter Kayinsola Ajayi will compete at the London Diamond League on Saturday. He is aiming for a second straight 100m victory after an impressive debut in Oregon.
The 21-year-old heads into the race full of confidence. He equaled the Nigerian 100m record of 9.84 seconds at the Prefontaine Classic.
Oregon Win Boosts Confidence
Ajayi made a strong statement in his first Diamond League race. He defeated world champion Oblique Seville of Jamaica and former world champion Christian Coleman of the United States.
As a result, he is now regarded as one of the fastest sprinters in the world this season.
Furthermore, the victory strengthened his chances of winning a medal for Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Tough Test Awaits in London
However, Ajayi will face another world-class field in London.
His rivals include Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana. He will also race against reigning World Indoor 60m champion Jordan Anthony of the United States.
In addition, British sprint star Zharnel Hughes will compete in the event.
Meanwhile, Ajayi will be looking to maintain his winning form. A strong performance would further boost his confidence ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The London Diamond League is expected to provide another major test. However, the Nigerian record holder will be eager to prove that his victory in Oregon was no surprise.
