Ahead of 2027: APC Disqualifies 105 Kwara Assembly Aspirants

APC screening exercise sparks political tension in Kwara ahead of the 2027 State Assembly elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified 105 aspirants seeking tickets for the 2027 Kwara State House of Assembly election, the decision came after the party’s screening exercise in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital which involved aspirants contesting for the 24 assembly seats in the state.

According to reports, 158 aspirants took part in the screening process but in the end, only a few were cleared by the committee.

Party leaders said the screening was necessary. They explained that the process would help the APC present qualified candidates for the election. Meanwhile, the chairman of the screening committee, Professor Success Musa, described the turnout as encouraging.

He said the large number of aspirants showed the growing popularity of the APC in Kwara State. In addition, he noted that the screening would help the party avoid legal issues before the elections.

Similarly, Kwara APC chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, said the exercise was fair and transparent. According to him, the party followed its rules during the screening.

Sources within the party said many aspirants failed to meet important requirements. For instance, some aspirants allegedly submitted incomplete documents. Others reportedly had issues with party membership records and unpaid dues. However, the APC leadership has not released the full list of those disqualified.

Exepectedely the development has triggered reactions within political circles in Kwara State.

While some party members support the decision, others fear it could lead to internal disagreements before the primaries.

Nevertheless, some political observers believe the strict screening process could strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Attention now Shifts to Party Primaries because the Kwara State House of Assembly has 24 seats and as a result, the contest for party tickets remains highly competitive.

Now that the screening exercise has ended, attention is gradually shifting to the party primaries and the next stage of the political race.
