The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate linked to the murder of a legal practitioner, Barrister Princess Chigbo Nwamaka Mediatrix, in Abuja.

The arrests mark a major breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing crackdown on violent crime across the FCT, following directives by the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, PSC, to ensure that all those connected to the incident and similar crimes are identified and prosecuted.

Police investigations revealed that between 5 and 10 January 2026, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, deployed digital intelligence and tracking techniques to trace the victim’s mobile phone. This led to coordinated operations in Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities within the Kubwa axis of the FCT.

The suspects arrested were identified as:

  • Saifullahi Yusuf, 22, from Kaduna State, resident in Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei
  • Ishau Yusuf, 24, from Kaduna State, resident in Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei
  • Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia, from Kaduna State

Police disclosed that Saifullahi and Ishau Yusuf are biological brothers.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects are members of a long-running “one-chance” robbery network that operates intermittently within the FCT, especially during festive periods.

According to the Police, the incident occurred on 5 January 2026 at about 5:50 p.m., when Barrister Chigbo allegedly boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway, unaware that the occupants were criminals. Investigators said the suspects reportedly wound up the tinted windows, threatened her with weapons, and attempted to force her to pay ransom. During the attack, she was allegedly assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects dispossessed the victim of her Android mobile phone, which was later sold in Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. Police said the proceeds were shared among the suspects, with Minka’ilu Jibril receiving ₦30,000, Saifullahi Yusuf ₦15,000, while Ishau Yusuf and another suspect, Musa, who is currently at large, shared the balance.

During the arrest, police recovered several items believed to have been used in their criminal operations, including five scissors, two dagger knives, two knives, a long chain used for restraining victims, and a plier.

The FCT Police Command said investigations are ongoing and efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect and dismantle any remaining criminal networks connected to the syndicate.

CP Dantawaye commended the operatives for their professionalism and reassured residents of the Command’s resolve to rid the FCT of criminal elements. He also urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid boarding suspicious or unregistered vehicles, and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.

The Police said further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
