MARRAKESH – Nigeria’s Super Eagles have touched down in Marrakesh, Morocco, ahead of their highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final match against the Desert Warriors of Algeria, scheduled for Saturday, January 10.
The Nigerian contingent arrived following a dominant 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16. However, the buildup to the match has been shadowed by a dispute over unpaid bonuses. Reports emerged earlier today suggesting the players considered a training boycott to demand the settlement of outstanding allowances.
In a swift response, the Ministry of Finance and the NFF confirmed that funds are being processed via an “accelerated FX conversion” to ensure all arrears are settled before kickoff. On the pitch, all eyes are on the striking duo of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, who have led an attack that has scored a tournament-high 12 goals so far. Nigeria is seeking its first AFCON title since 2013, but they face an Algerian side that has conceded only one goal throughout the tournament.
