The Federal Government has inaugurated an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the affairs of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following the withdrawal of its registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The CAC, in a letter dated October 6, 2025, notified the Federal Ministry of Youth Development that the certificate of registration earlier issued to the Council in October 2020 had been revoked. The decision, the Commission said, followed a comprehensive investigation into the Council’s prolonged leadership crisis and constitutional irregularities.

In compliance with the CAC’s directive, the Ministry inaugurated a nine-member Interim Management Committee to steer the Council for one year, pending fresh elections into its governing structures.

The committee, chaired by Barrister Buhari Ibrahim Shehu, also includes representatives from the six geopolitical zones, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, and the CAC.

Other members are Kehinde Charity Awojoola, Adeleke Adebajo (Southwest), Uzoh Ifeanyi C (Southeast), Muhammad Abdullahi Sule (Northwest), Josephine Equali Eni (South South), Blessing Onne Okwe (North Central), Kaka Lawan Bundi (Northeast), and Sagir Umar Yana, representing the CAC.

The IMC’s mandate includes managing the Council’s affairs for the next one year, organizing elections into key offices, amending sections of the NYCN constitution, and working with relevant stakeholders to reposition the Council in line with national youth development priorities.

Speaking at the briefing in Abuja, Barrister Buhari Shehu said the Committee had already held its inaugural meeting and begun consultations with security agencies and youth stakeholders across the country.

He added that zonal consultations would soon commence on constitutional amendments and other issues affecting state chapters of the NYCN.

The Committee expressed appreciation to the Minister of Youth Development and the Registrar-General of the CAC for their role in resolving the Council’s decade-long crisis, and also commended President Bola Tinubu for reforms aimed at youth empowerment and national stability.

The IMC warned that no other individual or group should claim leadership of the NYCN, urging security agencies and the public to disregard any parallel factions.
