Comrade Babangida Isah has emerged as the new President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following a keenly contested election held in Abuja on Friday.

Ogechukwu Nnamene, Chief Returning Officer and Chairman of the Electoral Committee, announced the results in the early hours of Friday, declaring Isah the winner after a transparent and widely commended electoral process conducted under the auspices of the National Transition Committee (NTC).

Isah, who hails from Kogi State, polled 243 votes out of 497 accredited votes, narrowly defeating his closest contender, Comrade Ahmad Abubakar from Kebbi State, who garnered 228 votes.
A total of 26 votes were declared invalid, which did not affect the overall outcome of the election.

The election drew praise from youth leaders, civil society observers, and other stakeholders who described it as one of the most credible in the council’s recent history.

In his acceptance speech, Isah expressed gratitude to the delegates for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to “work tirelessly for the betterment of Nigerian youth.”

“My vision for the NYCN is to inspire and motivate young Nigerians to participate actively in the nation’s growth and development,” he said.

He also emphasized transparency, inclusivity, and accountability as core principles that would guide his administration, while promising to strengthen the council’s role in youth empowerment, education, and civic engagement.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) serves as the umbrella body representing youth organizations across the country, playing a vital role in leadership development and national integration.

Isah’s election, many observers say, signals a new phase for the council and the opportunity to restore unity and purpose among Nigerian youths.
