Gombe State Governor and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has inaugurated a 25-member APC Reconciliation Committee, charging its members to heal internal divisions and reposition the party for a sweeping victory in the 2027 general elections.

The governor said the APC’s objective is to retain all elective positions in Gombe State while delivering no fewer than one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. He also expressed confidence that the party would secure victory in the governorship election, all six National Assembly seats and the 24 State House of Assembly seats.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Government House in Gombe, Governor Inuwa appealed to party members dissatisfied with the outcomes of the recent APC congresses, primary elections and local government polls to put aside their grievances and embrace reconciliation for the collective interest of the party.

He explained that the reconciliation committee was constituted following a series of party activities, including ward, local government and state congresses, governorship and legislative primaries, as well as the recently concluded local government and Local Council Development Area elections.

According to the governor, while the exercises were largely successful, it was inevitable that some party members and aspirants would be disappointed by the outcomes.

“Perfection belongs only to Almighty God. As human beings, we are bound to make mistakes in our daily dealings. It is therefore understandable that some decisions and outcomes arising from these political processes may not have gone down well with some of our members, particularly those who aspired for elective offices but were unsuccessful,” he said.

Governor Inuwa noted that the committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, was established to engage aggrieved members through peaceful dialogue, rebuild trust, promote forgiveness and strengthen unity within the ruling party.

“We need to sheath our swords and embrace dialogue so that we can put our house in order as the 2027 general elections draw closer. Our strength lies in our unity, and together we must build a stronger and more formidable APC,” the governor stated.

He urged the committee to discharge its responsibilities with fairness, sincerity and commitment, stressing that the success of the reconciliation exercise would play a critical role in determining the party’s electoral fortunes.

Governor Inuwa also directed committee members to maintain strict confidentiality throughout the reconciliation process to prevent sensitive information from being exploited by political opponents.

He further empowered the committee to co-opt additional members where necessary and decentralise its operations across Gombe’s three senatorial districts to ensure a speedy and effective reconciliation process.

Expressing confidence in the committee, the governor described its members as experienced politicians, administrators and academics with proven integrity and the capacity to successfully carry out the assignment.

The committee’s terms of reference include identifying and documenting grievances arising from recent party activities, engaging aggrieved members and stakeholders, mediating disputes, promoting dialogue and party unity, advising the APC State Working Committee on reintegrating aggrieved members, and ensuring reconciled members remain committed to the APC constitution, manifesto and the administration’s development agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, its chairman and Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, thanked Governor Inuwa Yahaya and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee.

He assured that members would carry out their assignment with fairness, sincerity and diligence to strengthen the APC and ensure its continued electoral success in Gombe State.

Earlier, the Gombe State APC Chairman, Mohammed Dantata Ndus, described the reconciliation committee as credible and highly respected, commending Governor Inuwa for constituting the body.

He urged committee members to justify the confidence placed in them by working tirelessly to reunite the party and consolidate the achievements of the APC administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
