The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives and Member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Enone Federal Constituency of Benue State, Chief Dr. Philip Agbese, LL.B (UK), MBA (UK), LL.M (UK), has joined millions of people across the globe in commemorating World Public Relations Day, describing public relations as one of the strongest pillars of democratic governance, institutional credibility, and sustainable national development.

In a statement issued through his Special Assistant, Honourable Ibrahim Sani, Dr. Agbese observed that effective public relations is far more than managing information; it is the noble art of building trust, strengthening relationships, promoting mutual understanding, and safeguarding the integrity of public institutions. He noted that communication founded on truth and professionalism remains indispensable to the advancement of every progressive society.

According to the Deputy Spokesman, “A tree does not stand by its branches alone; it is sustained by the strength of its roots.” Likewise, every institution derives its strength from the confidence and trust of the people, and that confidence is nurtured through honest, transparent, and responsible communication.

He stressed that in an era shaped by digital media and the rapid flow of information, public relations professionals bear an even greater responsibility to champion truth, uphold ethical standards, combat misinformation, and foster constructive dialogue capable of uniting communities rather than dividing them.

Dr. Agbese applauded members of the public relations profession in Nigeria and across the world for their unwavering commitment to promoting understanding between governments, organisations, and citizens. He described their contributions as indispensable to peaceful coexistence, democratic accountability, and national cohesion.

He further encouraged young Nigerians aspiring to careers in public relations to embrace excellence, integrity, innovation, and lifelong learning, noting that credibility remains the greatest asset of every communicator. As the African proverb reminds us, “The reputation of a good name travels farther than the footsteps of its owner.”

The lawmaker reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to transparent governance, responsible public engagement, and people-centred representation, pledging to continue advancing open communication as a cornerstone of effective legislative service.

As the world commemorates World Public Relations Day 2026, Dr. Agbese called on all communicators, media professionals, institutions, and citizens to uphold truth, civility, and professionalism in every engagement, emphasizing that nations flourish where trust is protected, dialogue is encouraged, and integrity remains non-negotiable.

Happy World Public Relations Day to all public relations professionals whose dedication continues to strengthen democracy, inspire confidence, and build bridges of understanding across our nation and the world.

Signed
Honourable Ibrahim Sani
Special Assistant to the Deputy Spokesman
