Ronaldo scores brace as Al Nassr end seven-year league drought

Cristiano Ronaldo inspired Al Nassr to their first Saudi Pro League title in seven years after scoring twice in a dominant 4-1 victory over Damac on the final day of the season.

The Portuguese forward produced a decisive performance as Al Nassr secured the championship ahead of their rivals, ending a long wait for domestic success.

Ronaldo struck the club’s final two goals after Sadio Mané and Kingsley Coman had earlier put the Riyadh side firmly in control. Damac briefly threatened a comeback through Morlaye Sylla, but Al Nassr quickly restored their dominance.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner first found the net with a brilliant tight-angle free-kick before adding another close-range finish to seal the victory and spark celebrations among Al Nassr fans.

The title race had gone down to the final day following Al Nassr’s late setback against Al Hilal the previous week, when they conceded a stoppage-time equalizer that kept the battle open.

Ronaldo’s brace proved decisive as Al Nassr finally captured the Saudi Pro League crown for the first time since 2019.

The triumph also marked Ronaldo’s first major trophy since joining Al Nassr in January 2023 after his high-profile move from European football.

Despite criticism following several missed opportunities in domestic and continental competitions, including last weekend’s AFC Champions League Two final defeat to Gamba Osaka, Ronaldo responded with a commanding display when it mattered most.

The 41-year-old has now scored 127 goals for Al Nassr in all competitions and moved closer to the 1,000-goal milestone with career goals number 972 and 973 against Damac.

Earlier this month, Ronaldo also reached 100 Saudi Pro League goals, further highlighting his influence since arriving in Saudi Arabia.
