Dr Ebirim Explains APC Exit Cites Failure

A medical expert and politician, Dr. Obinna Ebirim, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the party has failed Nigerians and no longer represents the ideals it once promised.

Dr. Ebirim made the remarks during an appearance on S24 Spotlight in Abuja, where he spoke extensively about his political journey and reasons for leaving the APC.

He stated that he was among those who contributed to the formation and consolidation of the APC in 2014, describing the experience as one driven by hope for national renewal.

However, he said the reality fell short of expectations. According to him, former President Muhammadu Buhari was believed by many within the party to be a man of integrity, but governance outcomes, he argued, did not reflect the ideals they projected.

“We thought Buhari was a man of integrity,” he said, adding that while Buhari may retain personal integrity, the system under his leadership did not translate that into institutional accountability.

Explaining his defection, Dr Ebirim said he saw renewed hope in the Nigeria Democratic Congress, which he believes represents a possible shift in Nigeria’s political direction.

He urged Nigerians to consider giving the party a chance to redefine governance, insisting that the country needs a stronger culture of accountability among leaders.

He also criticized the All Progressives Congress, stating that the party had failed to meet the expectations of many who supported its rise to power.

Dr Ebirim called on citizens to remain politically engaged ahead of future elections, stressing that national renewal would depend on collective responsibility and informed choices.
