The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Rangers International FC a total of N4 million for multiple rule violations during their match against Barau FC.
The sanctions follow incidents involving poor security, misconduct by officials, and the behaviour of supporters.
The NPFL announced the penalties after reviewing reports from the match. The league found that Rangers failed to meet key requirements during the fixture.
As a result, the club now faces financial penalties and further disciplinary actions.
Breakdown of the N4m Fine
The N4 million fine covers several offences committed during the match.
Rangers received:
- N1 million for failing to provide adequate security
- N1 million for allowing encroachment onto the field
- N1 million for unsporting behaviour by club officials
- N1 million for failing to control their supporters
Each penalty reflects a specific breach of league regulations.
Security Failures Highlighted
Meanwhile, the NPFL raised concerns about security lapses at the stadium.
Unauthorized individuals gained access to restricted areas during the match. This failure exposed players and officials to potential risks.
The league stressed that clubs must ensure proper security arrangements at all times.
Misconduct by Officials and Fans
In addition, the league cited actions by Rangers’ officials that could bring the game into disrepute.
Supporters also played a role in the sanctions. Reports showed that some fans harassed match officials during the game.
Such behaviour, the NPFL noted, goes against the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.
Beyond the fine, Rangers must play their next two home matches behind closed doors.
This means fans will not be allowed into the stadium for those fixtures. The measure aims to prevent further incidents and enforce discipline.
However, the club still has the option to challenge the decision.
Rangers have 48 hours from the notice of sanctions to file an appeal with the league authorities.
