CAF President Mourns South Africa Midfielder Jayden Adams

The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has paid tribute to South Africa international and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams following his death at the age of 25.

Motsepe described Adams as a gifted footballer who proudly represented South Africa on the biggest stage. He also praised the midfielder’s achievements with Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.

The CAF president sent his condolences to the South African Football Association (SAFA), its president Danny Jordaan, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Adams’ family.

“On behalf of CAF and its 54 Member Associations, Dr Motsepe conveys his heartfelt condolences to the South African Football Association (SAFA), its President Dr Danny Jordaan, Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club and the family of Jayden Adams,” the statement read.

He ended the tribute with a simple message: “May Jayden Adams’ soul rest in peace.”

Successful Career for Club and Country

Adams represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He played in all three group-stage matches as Bafana Bafana reached the knockout stage for the first time. Their campaign ended with a Round of 32 defeat to co-hosts Canada.

The midfielder made his senior international debut in 2022. He also helped South Africa reach the semi-finals of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

Adams started his professional career with Stellenbosch FC. He joined Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025 and quickly became an important player.

During his time at the club, he won the South African Premiership title and the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

South Africa Mourns Football Star

South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, announced Adams’ death on Saturday.

“It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams,” McKenzie said.

The minister described the midfielder’s death as a huge loss to South African football.

Authorities have not released the cause of death. South African police have confirmed that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding his passing.

Adams leaves behind a growing legacy in South African football. Fans, teammates, and football leaders across Africa continue to pay tribute to the talented midfielder.
