Mahdi Shehu has raised concerns over the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a strongly worded statement, Shehu likened INEC to a conservation body expected to protect voters and electoral integrity.

He argued that the Commission’s primary responsibility is to safeguard the rights of voters and candidates.

However, he expressed concern that INEC may be deviating from this role.

Shehu accused the Commission of displaying bias and selectively interpreting court orders.

He warned that such actions could undermine public trust in the electoral process.

The commentator also raised concerns about voter revalidation and its potential impact.

He suggested that poorly timed or executed processes could lead to voter disenfranchisement.

He further alleged that opposition parties could be weakened through administrative and legal mechanisms.

Shehu warned that Nigeria’s democracy remains fragile.

He stressed that any erosion of electoral integrity could have serious consequences for the country.

The comments come amid growing political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.
