The House of Representatives Nigeria has recorded a major shift in party composition.

A total of 121 lawmakers have defected since July 2024.

The latest wave saw 30 members announce new political affiliations during plenary.

Lawmakers cited internal crises, factional disputes and organisational challenges in their former parties.

The development has expanded party representation in the House to nine.

The Action Peoples Party has now gained representation for the first time.

It secured two members from the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party.

The All Progressives Congress remains the majority party.

Meanwhile, opposition parties including the African Democratic Congress, New Nigeria Peoples Party and Social Democratic Party form part of the minority caucus.

Data shows the APC gained the highest number of seats overall.

The PDP recorded the largest losses, followed by the Labour Party and NNPP.

Analysts say the trend reflects increasing political fluidity in the 10th Assembly.

The House is now one of the most politically diverse since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.

Observers note that nearly one in three lawmakers has changed party affiliation.

The realignments are expected to shape legislative dynamics ahead of future elections.
