Communities along the border of Bauchi State and Gombe State are facing renewed security threats after fresh bandits attacks by armed men.

Residents say the violence has increased in recent weeks. As a result, many families have fled their homes in search of safety.

Security analysts warn that the border region has become vulnerable due to difficult terrain and limited patrol coverage.

Mansur Village Residents Forced To Flee

In Mansur village, located in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, attackers carried out repeated assaults. Consequently, residents abandoned their homes.

Many people trekked long distances on foot to neighboring communities in Gombe State. Families left behind farms, livestock and food supplies.

Locals described the situation as chaotic and frightening. However, some residents have remained behind to guard property.

Attacks Spread To Akko LGA In Gombe

A similar pattern of violence occurred in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State. Areas such as Pindiga and Galadima experienced attacks between December 2025 and January 2026.

The Gombe State Emergency Management Agency reported that a January 23 attack in Galadima displaced at least 6,850 people. The figure includes 1,141 families.

Therefore, thousands now depend on host communities for shelter and support.

Joint Assessment Reveals Widespread Displacement

A joint review by the National Emergency Management Agency and the North East Development Commission confirmed large-scale displacement.

Affected residents have moved to nearby towns such as Pindiga, Tumu and Kashere. Many are staying with relatives, while others rely on temporary shelters.

As a result, pressure on local resources has increased.

Casualties And Property Destruction Reported

Eyewitnesses said attackers launched multiple raids on the communities. They burned shops and destroyed stored food items.

At least three people were killed during the assaults. In addition, several properties were damaged.

This destruction has worsened the humanitarian crisis. Food shortages and fear now dominate daily life in the affected areas.

Authorities Provide Relief, Experts Call For Action

Authorities confirmed that relief materials have been distributed to displaced families. These supplies include food items and other basic necessities.

However, security experts argue that emergency aid alone will not solve the problem. Instead, they call for stronger coordination between Bauchi and Gombe state governments, along with federal support.

They recommend creating a joint security task force to patrol forests along the border. Improved intelligence sharing and aerial surveillance have also been suggested.

Long-Term Security And Stability Needed

Experts also advise tighter security around mining sites. Some believe illegal mining activities may help fund criminal groups.

In addition, they stress the need to support local vigilante groups. Sustained humanitarian assistance for displaced persons remains critical.

For now, residents hope that stronger security measures will restore peace. Until then, fear and uncertainty continue to shape life along the Bauchi–Gombe border.
