The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has pledged to partner with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education to protect vulnerable children.

The ICPC said the partnership will strengthen advocacy, prevent corruption, and support efforts to return millions of children to school.

ICPC Chairman Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, gave the assurance in Abuja while receiving an NCAOOSE delegation.

He described the education of vulnerable children as critical to Nigeria’s survival and leadership continuity.

Aliyu said keeping children in school remains difficult but essential for national development.

He warned against placing adult responsibilities on children, stressing the need for parental guidance and quality education.

The ICPC chairman expressed readiness to finalise a Memorandum of Understanding with NCAOOSE.

The agreement would allow the ICPC to apply corruption risk assessments to prevent financial leakages.

Aliyu said the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria would support integrity and transparency within education interventions.

NCAOOSE Executive Secretary Mohammed Sani Idris highlighted Nigeria’s out-of-school crisis.

He cited UNICEF figures estimating over 18.3 million out-of-school children nationwide.

Idris warned that Almajiri and vulnerable children face abuse, neglect, and exposure to crime.

He said corruption and weak funding worsen the education gap and threaten national stability.

The NCAOOSE boss revealed the agency runs 200 learning centres nationwide.

He said more than 700,000 children have been identified for reintegration programmes.

However, he noted severe funding shortages, limited infrastructure, and inadequate operational vehicles.

Idris appealed to ICPC to help advocate increased budgetary support for the Commission.
