A medical expert, Dr. Hauwa Shehu Bello, has called on Nigerians and the government to take urgent steps in addressing the renewed threat of the Ebola virus following the recent outbreak reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Dr. Shehu made the call during an exclusive interview with S24 in Abuja, where she warned that Nigerians must remain cautious and proactive to prevent the spread of the deadly virus into the country.
According to her, public awareness and adherence to preventive measures remain critical in the fight against Ebola, stressing that collective efforts are needed to eliminate the disease from society.
She urged Nigerians to maintain proper hygiene practices, especially regular hand washing, while also encouraging citizens to report suspected cases early to the nearest medical facility for immediate attention.
The medical expert noted that some symptoms of Ebola may initially appear like common fever, making early detection and prompt medical response very important.
Dr. Shehu also appealed to the government to strengthen health surveillance and emergency response systems, noting that pandemics and outbreaks require timely intervention to avoid widespread health crises.
She emphasized that cooperation between citizens and health authorities would play a major role in preventing another major outbreak in Nigeria.
