3 Lawmakers Defect to ADC

Three members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The move signals early political shifts ahead of the 2027 elections.

The lawmakers are Thaddeus Attah of Lagos, Usman Zubairu of Kaduna, and Sani Noma of Kebbi. They previously belonged to the Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawmakers blamed internal crises in their former parties. They pointed to divisions and instability. These issues have continued to affect party cohesion.The defections were not limited to the ADC. Two lawmakers moved from the PDP to the APC.

In Osun, two others defected from the PDP to the Accord Party. Meanwhile, a lawmaker from Taraba moved from the APC to the PDP. These changes reflect wider political movement across parties. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu read the notices during plenary.

The announcements formalized the changes in party alignment .The House later adjourned to honor Muhammad Hassan. He died on April 10 after an illness. His death cast a somber mood over proceedings.These defections highlight early positioning for the next elections. Smaller parties like the ADC may gain more attention.

More shifts could happen in the coming months. Political alliances remain fluid as 2027 approaches.
