Abba Kabir Nominates Garo as Kano Deputy Governor

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has forwarded the name of Murtala Sule Garo to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as Deputy Governor.

The nomination was announced in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad. It follows the provisions of Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution.

The Deputy Governor’s seat became vacant after the resignation of Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.

According to the statement, the Governor made the decision after wide consultations with key stakeholders. He also urged the Assembly to approve the nomination without delay.

Meanwhile, Murtala Sule Garo is a 48-year-old political administrator with over 20 years of experience. He has held several key positions at both state and local levels.

Garo had served as State Organising Secretary of his party and was also Special Adviser to the Governor.

In addition, the nominee has been Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area, served as Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State.

He later became Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Furthermore, he was the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the APC in the 2023 general elections.

Overall, the nomination is expected to strengthen governance in Kano State and also aimed at improving service delivery across the state.
