President Bola Tinubu has met with Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe during the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, where discussions centred on football development, youth empowerment, and investment opportunities across the continent.

The meeting brought together two influential figures in African politics and sports administration as leaders continue exploring how football can contribute to economic growth, job creation, and social development in Africa.

According to officials, both leaders discussed the growing role of sports as an economic driver capable of creating employment opportunities for millions of young Africans while also strengthening regional cooperation and international visibility for African countries.

During the talks, Tinubu and Motsepe reportedly examined ways African governments and football institutions can collaborate more closely to expand sports infrastructure, talent development, and private-sector investment in football.

They also discussed how football continues to serve as a unifying force across Africa, particularly among young people.

Analysts say the conversation reflects a broader shift in how African nations increasingly view sports not only as entertainment, but also as a strategic economic sector linked to tourism, media rights, digital innovation, branding, and employment generation.

CAF under Motsepe has continued pushing reforms aimed at improving football infrastructure, increasing commercial partnerships, and expanding investment opportunities across African football competitions.

Part of the discussion also focused on preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The tournament is expected to become one of the biggest sporting events on the continent, with significant expectations around tourism, infrastructure development, and regional economic activity.

Officials believe the competition could further strengthen East Africa’s position as a major destination for international sporting events while opening new opportunities for investment in transport, hospitality, broadcasting, and sports technology.

Nigeria is also expected to play an important role in supporting continental football development ahead of the tournament.

President Tinubu is currently participating in the Africa Forward Summit alongside African presidents, investors, technology leaders, and business executives.

The summit is focused on innovation, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, and economic growth across Africa.

Discussions at the event have largely centred on how African countries can strengthen regional cooperation, attract investment, and position themselves more competitively in the global economy.

Observers say the summit reflects increasing efforts by African governments to promote intra-African partnerships while expanding opportunities for private-sector growth.

Beyond the summit, Tinubu is also expected to hold meetings with international investors and business leaders as Nigeria seeks to attract additional capital into key sectors of the economy.

The President is later scheduled to travel to Kigali, Rwanda, where he will participate in the Africa CEO Forum later this week.

The forum is expected to bring together top policymakers and private-sector executives to discuss economic reforms, trade expansion, investment opportunities, and Africa’s long-term development strategy.
