Ronaldo Announces Final World Cup

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the last World Cup of his remarkable career. The 41-year-old said he is determined to enjoy every moment of the tournament as Portugal continue their quest for the title.

Ronaldo revealed his decision on Sunday while speaking to reporters ahead of Portugal’s Round of 16 meeting with Spain.

“It’s about enjoying it as much as possible,” he said.

“This will be my last World Cup, but let’s hope tomorrow isn’t my last game.”

Veteran Star Leaves With No Regrets

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said he has no regrets about his international career and believes he has given everything to Portugal.

“The day will come when I retire from international football,” Ronaldo said. “Whatever happens tomorrow, Cristiano will leave with a clear conscience because I’ve given everything in football.”

According to the Portuguese forward, his love for the game remains the biggest reason he continues to play at the highest level.

“I don’t need it. I have a good life, but it’s about passion. I play football because I love it. You have to enjoy every day. I’ve scored three goals at this World Cup, so I’m not doing too badly,” he added.

Historic Achievements at the 2026 World Cup

Ronaldo has enjoyed another memorable campaign in the United States, Canada and Mexico. He became the first player to score in six different FIFA World Cups after netting twice against Uzbekistan in the group stage.

His penalty against Croatia in the Round of 32 also marked his first goal in a World Cup knockout match, adding another milestone to his record-breaking career.

Looking back on the competition, Ronaldo described this edition as the most emotional World Cup he has experienced.

“It’s been fantastic. It goes beyond the pitch. This is the World Cup I’ll remember the most because of people’s passion. Emotionally, it’s been the best, and I’ve enjoyed it very much,” he said.

World Cup Trophy Will Not Define His Legacy

Despite never winning the FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo believes his place in football history is already secure.

“I’m not lacking anything in life. I’m not going to be more or less Cristiano because I win the World Cup. We have the qualities to win, but only one country can win it. Age gives you maturity and experience,” he said.

The Al-Nassr forward, who is under contract with the Saudi Pro League club until 2027, also thanked those who criticized him throughout his career, saying their comments helped him grow both as a player and as a person.

As Portugal prepare for the knockout stages, Ronaldo hopes to extend his farewell World Cup for as long as possible. Regardless of how the tournament ends, the veteran striker will leave the global stage as one of football’s greatest players, with a career that has inspired fans around the world.
