Prominent political leaders, retired public servants, academics, and community figures from Gombe State have resolved to close ranks and rally behind the governorship aspiration of Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, popularly known as Sardaunan Gombe, as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

The resolution was reached during a stakeholders’ engagement held in Abuja on Sunday, where participants from different political backgrounds met to deliberate on Gwamna’s vision for Gombe State and discuss strategies for building a united political front ahead of the next governorship election.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Dr. Gwamna to present his plans for the state’s future while receiving feedback, suggestions, and recommendations from stakeholders drawn from various sectors.

A major highlight of the engagement was the emphasis on reconciliation following the conclusion of the APC governorship primaries.

Speakers noted that many attendees had previously supported different governorship aspirants during the party’s primary election. While some backed Senator Saidu Ahmed Alkali, others supported different contenders, including former House of Representatives member Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, who also contested the primary.

Despite those differences, participants agreed that the primary contest had come to an end and that the focus should now shift towards building a united political movement capable of securing victory in the 2027 elections.

Throughout the deliberations, stakeholders expressed their readiness to consolidate support around Dr. Gwamna, describing unity as essential for the continued political stability and development of Gombe State.

One of the key decisions reached at the meeting was the formation of a high-powered reconciliation committee.

According to participants, the committee will engage stakeholders, former governorship aspirants, and their supporters who may still feel dissatisfied with the outcome of the APC primaries.

The committee is expected to promote dialogue, rebuild confidence among party members, and encourage greater political inclusion ahead of the elections.

Stakeholders maintained that political contests naturally produce winners and losers, but stressed that unity must take precedence over individual ambitions.

They also emphasized that leadership ultimately comes through the will of Allah, adding that any aspirant who had emerged victorious during the primaries would have deserved similar support from party stakeholders.

Participants further observed that political aspirations are continuous and that today’s political circumstances should not prevent future cooperation among leaders and supporters.

The Abuja engagement attracted a wide range of influential personalities from across Gombe State.

Among those present were retired military generals, retired Federal Permanent Secretaries, former ministers, former members of the House of Representatives, professors, former Directors-General, senior civil servants, respected traditional and community leaders, as well as other distinguished figures from politics, academia, and the public service.

Observers said the diverse attendance reflected growing efforts to build consensus across political, professional, and social groups ahead of the next election cycle.

Beyond reconciliation, stakeholders discussed strategies for grassroots mobilisation, political engagement, and strengthening support structures across the state.

Participants agreed that sustained consultations, regular stakeholder meetings, and broader engagement with communities would be necessary to consolidate support and promote a shared vision for Gombe State’s future.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintain regular consultations aimed at strengthening collaboration, promoting unity, and supporting Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna’s governorship ambition in the 2027 general elections.

Political analysts have consistently noted that stakeholder consensus often plays a significant role in Nigerian politics, particularly in states where party unity influences electoral outcomes. Building reconciliation after party primaries has become an increasingly important strategy for preventing internal divisions that can weaken electoral performance.

For Gombe State, where political alliances and elite consensus have historically shaped electoral contests, observers say efforts to unite supporters of former aspirants could strengthen party cohesion ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

While political campaigns are expected to intensify closer to the election period, the Abuja meeting signals an early attempt by supporters of Dr. Gwamna to consolidate support and project a united front as preparations for the 2027 polls continue.
