The Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, Bala Isa, announced the approval during a press briefing in Maiduguri, describing the intervention as another demonstration of Governor Zulum’s commitment to rebuilding the state through education.
According to Isa, the funds will settle outstanding 2024/2025 scholarship obligations covering tuition fees, accommodation, welfare allowances, and other educational expenses for students studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria and abroad.
The beneficiaries include 272 medical students of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, 34 MBBS students at Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, and 60 students studying at the Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology, Zaria.
The package also provides six months’ allowances for nursing students under the state scholarship scheme, educational support for 300 orphans of Civilian Joint Task Force members who lost their lives during counter-insurgency operations, and return airfare for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in India, Malaysia, and China.
Isa described the beneficiaries as future doctors, engineers, scientists, and other professionals who will contribute to Borno State’s long-term development and post-conflict recovery. He added that administrative processes had already commenced to ensure the prompt disbursement of the approved funds.
He commended Governor Zulum for sustaining investments in education despite the state’s security and humanitarian challenges, noting that scholarships and human capital development remain central to the administration’s reconstruction agenda.
Governor Zulum has consistently expanded educational support for children of security volunteers and vulnerable students. In previous interventions, the state government approved scholarship packages for CJTF orphans and other categories of students as part of its broader efforts to support families affected by the insurgency while rebuilding the state’s education sector.
