The spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Mansir Umar Kurugu, has described Kano State as being on “autopilot,” alleging that the ongoing political crisis between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has affected governance in the state.
Kurugu made the remarks while speaking as a guest on Political Arena, a current affairs programme on S24 Television in Abuja.
Speaking on the strained relationship between Governor Yusuf and Senator Kwankwaso, Kurugu described the governor’s actions as “a pure betrayal,” arguing that the political disagreement has created uncertainty within the administration.
According to him, while many people believe the governor is delivering on infrastructure, critical sectors such as healthcare and education have not received the level of attention they deserve.
“There is a perception that the governor is working because of the projects people can see. However, governance is more than constructing roads and buildings. Kano needs a holistic approach that gives equal attention to healthcare, education and other essential sectors,” he said.
Kurugu further alleged that development efforts are concentrated in selected parts of the state, leaving other communities without adequate government attention.
He maintained that Kano requires balanced development that addresses the needs of all residents rather than focusing primarily on physical infrastructure.
Commenting on the political future of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections, Kurugu said many supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano are comfortable with the proposed “OK Ticket,” referring to a possiblity Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He expressed confidence that such an alliance could provide an alternative platform for Nigerians seeking change.
“The people of Kano are comfortable with the OK Ticket of Obi and Kwankwaso. We believe Nigerians are looking for credible leadership, and this alliance represents hope for many citizens,” he said.
Kurugu called on the people of Kano and Nigerians in general to make what he described as “a wise decision” during the 2027 elections by voting for leaders they believe can address the country’s economic, social and governance challenges.
The Kwankwasiyya spokesperson also urged citizens to carefully assess the performance and promises of political leaders before casting their votes, stressing that the 2027 elections would play a significant role in determining Nigeria’s future.
His comments come amid growing political realignments and speculation over possible opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Neither the Kano State Government nor Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially responded to Kurugu’s claims.
