Gombe State University (GSU) has placed its Main Campus under 24-hour Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance following the installation of a state-of-the-art, campus-wide security system aimed at strengthening safety and protecting lives and property.

The University announced that the solar-powered surveillance network provides comprehensive coverage across the Main Campus, monitoring and recording pedestrian, vehicular, and bicycle movements around the clock.

According to the University, the CCTV system is integrated with its Central Security Control Room and supported by an enhanced walkie-talkie communication network to enable faster coordination and emergency response by security personnel.

The Chief Security Officer of the University, Retired Lieutenant Commander Jafaru Kamara, commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, and the University Management for investing in the modern security infrastructure.

He said the surveillance technology would significantly improve the operational capacity of the University’s Security Unit by enhancing monitoring, coordination, emergency response, and incident investigation.

Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, described the installation of the CCTV system as a major milestone in the University’s efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for teaching, learning, research, and community service.

According to him, the system has already proven useful in reviewing security incidents and supporting ongoing security operations within the campus.

Professor Yauta urged members of the University’s Security Unit to operate the facility professionally and efficiently, emphasizing that the investment is part of Management’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of staff, students, visitors, and protecting University assets.

The Vice-Chancellor also informed staff, students, visitors, and the general public that the entire Main Campus is now under continuous CCTV surveillance.

He explained that movements within the campus are monitored to enhance security, deter criminal activities, improve accountability, and ensure a peaceful academic environment.

The University said the initiative reflects its continued investment in modern security infrastructure and its determination to maintain a secure and conducive atmosphere for academic excellence and institutional development.
