Residents of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State have been left shaken after suspected gunmen abducted a nine-year-old boy, Olaosebikan Victor, during a midnight attack on Ugbosi Quarters.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:30 a.m. when armed men stormed the community, firing gunshots and causing panic among residents. Amid the chaos, the attackers targeted the residence of Olaosebikan Isaac, Victor’s father.

Fearing for his safety, Isaac reportedly fled into a nearby bush, leaving his son behind. The gunmen subsequently abducted the child and escaped to an unknown destination.

The suspects also attempted to break into the home of Joel Owalekan, damaging parts of the building in the process. Owalekan, however, escaped unharmed.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said officers, alongside the Amotekun Corps, swiftly launched a search-and-rescue operation following a distress report from residents.

According to him, security operatives have been combing nearby forests and suspected escape routes in a bid to rescue the boy and arrest those responsible. He added that investigations are ongoing and relevant exhibits have been recovered from the scene.

Abayomi assured residents that all tactical and intelligence units have been mobilised to secure the victim’s safe return and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide any useful information that could aid the rescue effort. The incident has renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of the state, as residents await the safe return of the abducted child.
