Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, has declared that he does not support the rehabilitation of bandits, terrorists, or other violent criminals responsible for the killing of innocent Nigerians.

Gagdi made the statement while speaking as a guest on Silver Bird Rhythm FM in JosPlateau State.

The federal lawmaker stressed that justice must take precedence in the country’s fight against insecurity, insisting that individuals involved in acts of terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes should be held accountable for their actions.

“I do not support the rehabilitation of bandits, terrorists, or any criminal responsible for taking the lives of innocent people,” Gagdi said.

He maintained that the protection of law-abiding citizens should remain the government’s foremost responsibility, adding that any security policy must prioritize justice for victims and their families.

“Justice must always prevail, and the safety of law-abiding citizens should remain our highest priority,” he added.

Gagdi’s comments come amid ongoing national debates over the Federal Government’s approach to tackling insecurity, including discussions around the deradicalisation and rehabilitation of repentant insurgents and former bandits.

While supporters of rehabilitation programmes argue that they can help reduce violence and encourage the reintegration of former fighters into society, critics contend that such initiatives may undermine justice for victims and fail to deter future criminality.

Nigeria continues to face security challenges in several parts of the country, including terrorism in the North-East, banditry in the North-West, and kidnapping for ransom across multiple states.

Gagdi’s remarks add to the growing calls for a security strategy that prioritises accountability, justice, and the protection of citizens while addressing the root causes of insecurity.
