The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has flagged off its 2027 campaign, directing its candidates to begin consultations with voters and party stakeholders across the country.

The party also warned candidates and supporters against violence, abusive language and inflammatory statements during the campaign.

The NDC said its campaign would focus on issues affecting Nigerians. It said candidates must promote peaceful political engagement.

The party directed its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to begin consultations with their constituents.

The directive also covers National Assembly, governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.

The party asked its state and local government chapters to prepare campaign programmes for their areas.

The NDC said it would soon inaugurate campaign committees across the country.

According to the party, the committees will coordinate campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party also urged candidates to hold familiarisation and sensitisation meetings with voters. It said local campaign events can now begin.

The party stressed the need for peaceful campaigns throughout the election period.

The NDC said political contests should focus on issues that affect Nigerians. It also rejected violence and foul language.

The party said it has no room for violence during its campaign activities.

It urged candidates and supporters to promote responsible political engagement as the 2027 elections approach.

The NDC also addressed questions surrounding its party logo.

The party said it had modified the logo after consultations with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, some administrative issues remain unresolved. The party therefore directed its members to continue using the existing logo for campaign activities.

The existing logo features a two-finger victory sign. The NDC said members should continue using it until discussions with INEC are complete.

The NDC’s announcement marks an important step in its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

With campaigns now beginning, the party is expected to take its message to voters across the country.

The NDC said its campaign will focus on grassroots engagement, peaceful politics and issues affecting Nigerians.
