Favour Ashe Confident Ahead of 2026 Commonwealth Games

Nigerian sprint star Favour Ashe says he is ready for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The 100m and 4x100m relay runner believes he is in top physical and mental condition.

Ashe said Team Nigeria’s training camp has played an important role in preparing athletes for the competition.

Training Camp Boosts Confidence

According to Ashe, the camp has improved the team’s fitness and confidence.

“Coming into the Commonwealth Games, I would say my mental is in the right spot. I’m ready mentally and physically,” he said.

He added that the training camp has helped athletes stay focused.

“This training camp has been a huge boost for the athletes. It has also put us in a better mental space. So, yes, I believe I’m ready for the Commonwealth Games.”

Meanwhile, Ashe urged Nigerians to support every member of Team Nigeria during the Games.

“I want Nigerians to support us not just me, but every athlete representing the country,” he said.

He also thanked family members and fans for their encouragement.

“Please continue to support us in every way you can. Thank you so much.”

Government Announces Medal Rewards

In addition, the Federal Government has announced cash rewards for medal winners at the Games.

National Sports Commission Director-General Bukola Olopade said gold medalists will receive $3,000. Silver medalists will earn $2,000, while bronze medalists will receive $1,500.

Furthermore, coaches of medal-winning athletes will receive performance bonuses of $5,000.

Olopade also confirmed that the payment of camp allowances has started. As a result, athletes can focus fully on preparing for the competition.

Team Nigeria will compete in Glasgow hoping to win medals and make the country proud at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
