The All Progressives Congress, APC, has postponed its House of Representatives primaries by one day after disputes over consensus candidates and logistics disrupted preparations.
The primaries, earlier fixed for Friday, will now hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Party spokesman Felix Morka announced the change in a statement late Thursday, said the new timetable keeps other primaries unchanged.
Under the revised schedule, Senate primaries will hold on May 18, state Assembly primaries will take place on May 20, while governorship primaries remain slated for May 21, the presidential primary will still hold on May 23.
Party sources blamed the delay on unresolved screening issues involving several aspirants.
Officials said the party had yet to complete the screening process for some House of Representatives hopefuls, the delay slowed the deployment of officials and disrupted logistics for the nationwide exercise.
A source at the APC national secretariat said the party was still reviewing the list of cleared aspirants as of Thursday night.
“The party is addressing complaints raised during screening,” the source said. “Most of the issues have been resolved, and the final list will be released before the primaries begin.”
The APC had planned to release screening results on Wednesday, the appeals committee was expected to sit on Thursday to resolve disputes before the primaries.
But officials could not complete the process on schedule, instead, the party communicated with aspirants individually while it finalized the comprehensive report.
Party insiders also linked the postponement to disagreements over consensus arrangements in many states.
